Objective Truth is a reality that exists independently of human belief or perception (for example, “the earth revolves around the sun”). This kind of truth is absolute and unchanging; it does not depend on personal opinions, feelings, or interpretations to be valid. It requires no human cognition or acceptance to remain true, for it rests on the fundamental definition of truth — the undeniable fact of how things truly are. This is the same truth Jesus referred to when he said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” The Word is with God, the Word is God, and the Word is truth; this truth has existed from the beginning, transcending human time and predating the existence of humankind. Consequently, it is not bound to the subjective or social constructions of truth created by people, but rather it undergirds and informs everything that is, was, or will be, because Christ is Lord. This is the truth to which we must cling, recognizing that we cannot rely solely on our own limited constructs of truth but must seek the Lord so that He may grant us the knowledge, understanding, and wisdom of His truth.
Now let’s dive into the Scriptures:
John 14:6 — Here Jesus declares that he is the way, the truth, and the life, and that no one comes to the Father except through him. From this we understand that anything genuinely rooted in truth will align with the Gospel of Jesus Christ; if it does not, it cannot rightly be called truth.
John 1:1–3 — In these opening verses we are told that the Word was with God and that the Word was God, and that all things were made through him; without him nothing that exists was made. This passage anchors Jesus as objective truth, because objective truth is not dependent on human opinion or belief, and as the eternal Creator his truth stands independently of our acceptance. The same theme is further emphasized in Colossians 1:16–17, where Paul explains that God created the heavens and the earth, that he is before all things, and that all things hold together in him, underscoring Christ’s foundational and sustaining role in creation and truth.
